Soaking softens rolled grains and dried fruit. The result can be loose and spoonable or thick like a parfait, depending on the liquid and time.
Choose a suitable base
Rolled oats and commercial muesli are common. Coarse grains may remain firm, while instant flakes can become very soft. Follow package directions if the product is designed for cooking.
Refrigerate perishable mixtures
Milk, yogurt, cut fruit and prepared mixtures require refrigeration. Use clean containers and follow local food-safety guidance for storage time.
Adjust in the morning
Add more liquid if the mixture is too thick, or stir in fresh fruit and crunchy toppings just before eating.
Prepare individual jars
Separate containers make it easier to manage different flavours, allergens or serving preferences within a household.
